Background
I am a paleobiologist trained at the University of Chicago. However, my early education at the University of Singapore and then later at Uppsala University and the Swedish Agricultural University was focused on tropical ecology and conservation biology.
Research Interests
I am mainly interested in patterns and processes observable and inferable from the fossil record. Themes that I am currently working on include
(i) what regulates global population growth or decline on geologic time scales?
(ii) what signatures would fossil organisms/populations leave in the fossil record if other fossil organisms/populations had strongly influenced their ecological or evolutionary trajectories?
(iii) what does stasis or change at different scales look like and what do they say about the underlying processes of long-term evolution?

I usually hang out with biologists on the uio campus but I also work one day a week at the Geological Section of the Natural History Museum at Tøyen
